The Algarve, Europe’s leading golf destination, has continued its surge in popularity after revealing a five-figure increase in the number of golf rounds played on its famous courses in the first quarter of 2015.
Helped not only by a fantastic climate, but also, more recently, with success in communicating with golfers across the spectrum through content-rich social media campaigns, the picturesque region continues to attract golfers in their thousands.
Additionally, the British pound has strengthened more than 20 per cent against the euro in the last 12 months, so UK golfers are approaching the 2015 season with gusto in the knowledge they will receive even greater value for money in the Algarve this year.
A spokesperson for the Associação Turismo do Algarve (ATA) said: “We are delighted that holidaymakers are continuing to choose the Algarve as their ‘go-to’ golf destination.
“Algarve’s golf tourism industry works hard to ensure our guests get the most out of our distinct offering by providing unforgettable experiences that will remain etched in the memory, and we feel these latest figures are testament to the success we are achieving. We’ll continue to provide exceptional levels of service.”
The Algarve’s sun-drenched climate boasts more than 300 days of sunshine per year, extending the golf season by several months and bringing players from all over the world to the region. It will celebrate its 50th anniversary as a golf destination in 2016.
Algarve, Europe’s number 1 Golf Destination
It’s hard to imagine the Algarve without thinking of golf, yet golf wasn’t born in this sun-drenched area until 1966, when Henry Cotton first laid out the Championship course at Penina.
Fast-forward half a century and our alluring region has not only become one of Europe’s premier holiday spots, but also an award-winning golf destination.
With a staggering 42 nine or 18-hole layouts that can be played all-year-round, it’s no wonder the Algarve draws hundreds of thousands of golfers to its fairways each year.
The Algarve is the southernmost region of mainland Portugal, and more than half of its courses decorate the 100-mile coastline, which also boasts spectacular beaches, picturesque rocky coves, quaint fishing villages and a rich cultural heritage.
The Algarve is the perfect destination golfers of all ages and abilities, with something to suit every taste and budget.
