A record turnout is being forecast for the Asian Golf Industry Federation’s (AGIF) 2015 Turfgrass Management Exposition.
To be staged at Pattaya’s acclaimed Laem Chabang International Country Club on the afternoon of March 10, the third edition of the event is expected to attract more than 250 delegates from almost 20 countries, representing Asia, Oceania, Africa, Europe, and North America.
The Expo is part of a three-day gathering (March 9-11) in the Central Thai beach resort that also includes the 7th Asian Turfgrass Field Day and a high-profile conference on Sustainable Turfgrass Management in Asia.
The conference is organised by the Thai Golf Course Superintendents’ Association (TGCSA), the Thailand Golf Association and the Asian Turfgrass Centre, with support from The R&A.
Working together with the TGCSA, the AGIF Turfgrass Management Exposition will feature an array of equipment as well as product demonstration and education.
The Exposition is an AGIF-exclusive event that enables Federation members to have direct and uninterrupted interaction with golf course superintendents and club managers from Thailand and around the region.

Among the speakers are Steve Isaac, The R&A’s Director – Golf Course Management, Dr Micah Woods, Chief Scientist Asian Turfgrass Centre, Dr Wang Zhaolong, Executive Director, Turfgrass Institute at China’s Shanghai Jiatong University, Dr Clint Waltz Extension Specialist University of Georgia and Dr Jim Brosnan, Associate Professor University of Tennessee.
There are also three golf course superintendents on the programme – Jack Cheong [Royal Selangor, Malaysia], Panuwat Nanrum [Suwan G&CC, Thailand] and Rey Patricio Jr [Cebu CC, Philippines].
The registration fee includes two days of classroom seminars at the Amari Pattaya, the Asian Turfgrass Field Day, the AGIF Turfgrass Management Exposition, two conference dinners, three lunches, and a printed copy of the conference proceedings.

This year will also include a one-day, pre-conference seminar about designing, building, and maintaining extraordinary golf courses in Southeast Asia.
To be staged at Laem Chabang on March 8, the focus will be on understanding and implementing design principles and playing conditions from the world’s greatest golf courses and discussing how these ideas be applied on golf courses in Southeast Asia.
Paul Jansen, who designed Vietnam’s Laguna Lang Co together with Sir Nick Faldo, will speak on ground contours and sand bunkers.
Pirapon Namatra, who designed and built Hua Hin’s Banyan Golf Club, will advise on how to go about building such courses in the ASEAN region, while Micah Woods will explain why important decisions about soils and grassing can lead to improved course conditions and play.
