Bernhard and Company, the UK’s world-leading manufacturer of machine grinders, have appointed Ness Turf Equipment as their new distributors in Hawaii.
“This is a great opportunity for us to work alongside such a solid, established and expanding Hawaiian business,” said Owner and Chairman, Stephen Bernhard. “Ness have been around a long time – over 50 years, they know their market inside out, and their recent expansion coupled with a recovery, albeit slow in the economy, means that together we will be able to provide sharpening/grinding equipment for golf, sports fields and other municipalities across the islands.”
From 1965, trading as Inter Island Equipment, the company has been through a number of mergers, variously trading as Pacific Machinery Inc in 1979 to Hawthorne Equipment in 2004, to the recently renamed, Ness Turf Equipment, following a major move to new offices in Kapolei. The company services Hawaii (Hilo and Kona) and the outer islands as well as Guam, American Samoa and Saipan, and this Spring opened their first-ever stand alone Ness Turf Equipment store in Oahu’s CampbellIndustrial Park.
General Manager of Ness, Leonard Smith said, “We are pleased to announce our relationship with Bernhard Grinders. At Ness Turf, our goal has always been to provide the best selection of high quality turf equipment, and Bernhard’s complete range of grinders ensures that we are able to meet our customers’ expectations in today’s increasingly competitive marketplace.”
The Hawaiian economy is slowly recovering. After the recent purchase by Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle, of 98% of Lanai, the 6th largest island in Hawaii (some 88,000 acres). Leonard continued, “We’ve been supplying many of the construction jobs emerging from this new development – which includes commercial and residential property and the revamping of two golf courses and we are optimistic that our business will continue to grow along side this great commercial opportunity.”
