Andrew Mellon, Golf Operations Manager Elmwood College and Chairman of BIGGA, has been appointed as General Manager for Hydroturf International inQatar. Hydroturf are the Middle East’s leading golf course and landscaping supply Company.
Andrew has been with Elmwood for nearly 12 years, having been a student initially and then working through from Greenkeeper Instructor to his present position.
Carol Borthwick, Director of International, Golf and Student Services said, “This is a great opportunity for Andrew and he will be very much missed by the Elmwood team, but we wish him all the best for the future. He has been a fantastic supporter of all the work Elmwood has achieved in golf education with the development of a state-of-the-art training facility at the Golf Course and I am sure this experience will stand him in good stead within his future role.”
Andrew said, “This was not an easy decision to make. I have always enjoyed working at Elmwood, and it has provided me with many opportunities to develop personally. I believe the reputation of Elmwood, combined with the broad experience I’ve gained while employed here played an important part in securing this position, and I’ll always be grateful for that. It is an exciting opportunity and my family and I are looking forward to the challenge it provides.
“I’ve had the privilege of working with many wonderful colleagues and it has been very rewarding playing a part in the education of the next generation of greenkeepers. I’ve watched them progress to successful careers throughout the golf industry and I feel privileged to count so many as friends.
“I have seen many changes at Elmwood over the years, heavily focussed on providing better education to the sectors we serve. I know that will continue to be the case, and I will always do what ever I can to support Elmwood in that endeavour. I know Elmwood will continue to develop and remain at the forefront of education in the Golf Industry.”
Andrew will take up his new position in late August and meantime will be working with the College Management to ensure a smooth transition to his successor.
