Crown Golf has been named Golf Group of the Year for the second year in succession at an annual industry awards dinner hosted by Clubhouse magazine.
The Golf Group of the Year category in the Clubhouse Awards recognises venue and operational excellence. Crown Golf was successful in a group which also contained Burhill Golf and Leisure, The Club Company, De Vere and Exclusive Hotels.
Crown Golf chief operating officer, John Weir, said, “We are very proud to have won this again, and I can think of well over a thousand reasons why we retained our Group Of The Year title – namely, the staff at our 33 facilities.
“It’s our greens staff who get up early to prepare the courses each morning, before our members come to play golf. It’s our pros who stay behind to put away the golf carts and clear the range after a society day, and it’s our F&B staff breaking down a function at two in the morning.
“They – and the staff in many other departments who put in the long hours and represent Crown Golf on the front line – are the reason our customers keep on coming back. We are very pleased to accept this valued award on their behalf.”
The Clubhouse Awards were held at The Mere Golf and Country Club, Cheshire, on 22nd September 2008.
CEO Stephen Lewis said, “Everyone at Crown Golf feels very honoured to win twice in a row, especially when you look at the group of quality, professional operators who were our competitors for the award in this category. You are only as good as your people, and we have a terrific team.”
In its Golf Group of the Year application, Crown Golf was able to demonstrate strong membership growth, investment in the game through the launch of its Academy network, which includes an innovative new disabled teaching programme, grass roots golf development via special open days for women and children, operational excellence in sales and marketing, and a major contribution to the game’s legacy through the £100m redevelopment of the St Mellion International Resort in Cornwall.
