At their first meeting of the year the Trustees of St Andrews Links Trust have elected Dr Duncan Lawrie as their new Chairman.
A retired cardiologist who has lived in St Andrews for 23 years, Dr Lawrie was elected following Bill Ritchie’s decision to stand down after three years in the chair.
“I feel it is time for me to make way for a new Chairman of Trustees after what has been a period of major development and progress at the Links,” said Mr Ritchie, who will remain a Trustee.
In the five years he has served as a Trustee, Dr Lawrie has been a director of the Trust’s two limited companies St Andrews Links Golf Shops Limited and St Andrews Links Limited as well as Chairman of the Public Relations Sub-Committee.
A keen golfer all his life, Dr Lawrie was a Youth Internationalist and in 1995 he won the Scottish Seniors Championship. He is well-known in the golfing community and a member of all three of the main men’s golf clubs in the town. He was Captain of the New Golf Club in 1994. As a member of the R&A he served on the Rules of Golf Committee and is a qualified golf referee. He currently plays off a handicap of three.
“I am delighted to take over as Chairman when the Trust is in such good shape, ” said Dr Lawrie. “The courses are in excellent condition and the facilities are improving all the time. I am looking forward to working with my Trustee colleagues, the Links Management Committee and the staff in facing the challenges that lie ahead.”
