European Golf Design partners with Golf Environment Europe

3.45pm 5th March 2008 - Corporate

European Golf Design, the golf design arm of the PGA European Tour and IMG, has become a Technical Supporter of Golf Environment Europe.

The partnership recognises the values that EGD and GEE share in designing, constructing and managing environmentally and socially responsible golf courses. The practice, comprising six full time golf course architects, and with an international track record of responsible design and construction over the past 16 years, recognises the growing importance of environmental sustainability to the future of golf.

Speaking on behalf of EGD, Managing Director Jeremy Slessor said, “European Golf Design is delighted to announce this partnership with Golf Environment Europe. We have taken guidance from them regularly over recent years, and it is now right that we formalise our relationship. In GEE we see an organisation that is well structured, bringing together many of the key stakeholders in golf and environment, and which is now undertaking some very exciting work which will benefit golf and the environment.

This partnership is a clear indication of our commitment to support European golf as it strengthens its environmental and social responsibility.”

The funding support will enable Golf Environment Europe to:
• Undertake the late stage development and launch of the new web based Environmental Resource Centre for Golf, a collaboration amongst academic and research bodies (golf’s Innovation and Technology Network) to collate and disseminate technical environmental information to practitioners;
• Continue to administer the European Forum for Golf and Environment, which regularly brings together stakeholders in the golfing and environmental sectors to discuss policy and strategic projects on environmental issues;
• Further contribute to, and improve, environmental communications and information exchange on golf environment issues.

“Golf Environment Europe is extremely excited to be partnering with European Golf Design,” said Jonathan Smith of GEE. “EGD has clearly recognised the need for the golf industry to take effective action on environmental issues, and that GEE is well placed to provide the industry with valuable technical guidance, and strategic and political support.

We commend them on their commitment to support golf’s efforts in this field, and to play a leadership role in a more sustainable approach to golf development in the future.”

Jonathan Smith continued, “The support from European Golf Design and our other Technical Supporters is directly responsible for our ongoing work to bring technical environmental information to practitioners across Europe. We are looking forward to launch of the Environmental Resource Centre later this year.”

EGD will also support GEE by adopting an environmental policy for its planning, design and construction activities and by striving to demonstrate sustainable practices in the field.
