The Marriott St Pierre Hotel & Country Club has announced that from the 23rd July 2007, its Mathern Course will undergo a comprehensive renovation program, designed to improve both the quality and condition of the course.

Included in the improvements, that will cost around £750,000 will be a complete rebuild of all 18 teeing areas, installation of automatic irrigation on all greens, green approaches and teeing areas, construction of additional bunkers (which will also include renovation and re-shaping of all current bunkers), extensive construction of new pathways, re-design of area around the 1st tee to give an impressive look upon arrival, and construction of new bridges over waterways.

Extensive tree surgery is also planned to thin out existing trees. All work is planned to be completed by early October, with the course back in play by spring 2008.

Whilst the vast majority of work is focused primarily on the Mathern course, there will also be some alterations to the resort’s famous Old Course, with both the 8th and 9th greens being completely reconstructed. A comprehensive renovation is planned for the Old Course in 2008.

“With its beautiful setting, The Marriott St Pierre Hotel & Country Club, has always had a reputation for being one of the leading golf resorts in the UK & Ireland and we feel that the extensive renovations that are being done will only serve to improve the quality of golf and accommodation that our guests demand,” commented Ben Laing, director of golf, Marriott St Pierre Hotel & Country Club.

The Marriott St Pierre Hotel & Country Club is one of the UK’s finest golf resorts and has previously staged the Solheim Cup and numerous European Tour events. There are two championship courses at St Pierre; the Old Course is a challenging 6,764 yard par 71 layout, whilst the Mathern Course provides a gentler test at 5,748 yard par 68.

Construction of new tees during the course renovation process will give some additional yardage to the Mathern Course. Both courses blend seamlessly into the magnificent rolling countryside and offer a great day out for golfers of all abilities

Beyond the fairways, this elegant 14th century country retreat has also undergone major renovations and boats a wide range of first class facilities including: a blissful spa, tennis courts, a fitness club, a pool and a whole host of outdoor activities.

Set within 400 acres of rolling Welsh countryside, the resort is within 50 miles of both Cardiff and Bristol Airports, major motorways and rail networks are also nearby.
