Abbey Hill Golf Centre has appointed a new head PGA Professional charged with growing the retail side of the business.
Steve Brown, 38, brings a wealth of commercial expertise to the public pay-and-play centre having previously managed large golf retail chains and set up numerous Pro Shops around the south of the country.
Steve joins Abbey Hill – part of Burhill Golf & Leisure, the leading golf course owner and operator – with a remit to enhance the retail experience for customers and manage the centre’s Golf Academy, which enjoys a great reputation for its junior coaching initiatives and offers lessons to all standards of golfer.
Steve said: “Abbey Hill is a fantastic venue with two great courses and excellent practice facilities. I want to further grow the retail side of the business and develop it into a first-class outlet offering exciting deals and great value.
“We stock a number of golf’s leading brands as well as equipment for beginners and game improvers. We will also be using the latest custom fitting tools to give golfers inMilton Keynesthe right clubs to suit their individual swings.”
Steve gained his PGA Professional status in 1994, and was among the first batches of PGA Professionals to gain qualifications through an academic degree atKingstonUniversity– a course that incorporated business studies as well as core golfing qualifications.
“From early on in my golfing career I took a keen interest in the retail side of the business, perhaps more so than the playing side,” he added. “Since then I have gained an abundance of knowledge and experience from running a number of large franchises.”
