Two of the world’s biggest amateur golf tournament providers have joined forces. The International Pairs and Global Golfers have formed an alliance which generates arguably the biggest resource for amateur golfers anywhere in the world.
Through the partnership of the Hampshire-based International Pairs and Global Golfers, which is based at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, amateur golfers in the UK can access some of the biggest competitions outside of the professional game.
The Pairs already spans 25 countries worldwide and primarily attracts club golfers, while Global Golfers has run successfully two major amateur events for non-club members since it formed 13 years ago – the Daily Express Four-Man Team Challenge and the News of the World Transatlantic Team Trophy.
Ian Mulcrone, a director of Global Golfers, was keen to demonstrate the benefits of the golf alliance to amateur golfers across the country, and to both companies. “Marketing three events under one umbrella is a long-term strategy aimed at pooling our resources and delivering the biggest and best amateur golf platform possible,” he said.
“The International Pairs has excellent local and regional contacts, Global Golfers has a tremendous national press network. Joining forces gives us a robust promotional tool with which to drive the tournaments forward and attract key sponsors,” he continued. “We are confident that no-one can get a better reach for amateur golf.”
Ross Honey, the founder of the International Pairs, which is run in association with VisitScotland and hosts this year’s 36-hole UK final at Carnoustie in October, said, “Global Golfers runs two of the most prestigious team events in UK golf and has attracted significant backing on the back of 13 successful years running amateur events.

The International Pairs has been backed by VisitScotland for the last five years – and the national Scottish tourist body has committed to be the tournament’s main sponsor until at least 2008.
