Mizuno claims that their irons were the no.1 choice of players in this year’s Millennium Open at St Andrews. But it was a close result and the winning margin of two sets over closest rivals Titliest was apparently determined by two un-sponsored qualifiers who had purchased their clubs.
David Matthews at Mizuno said, “We are delighted. To know that qualifying players prefer Mizuno to the extent they will pay for their own clubs is praise indeed. This really shows that big marketing budgets cannot buy everything.” Mizuno took 24 on the irons count, pushing Titleist into second place and Ping in to third.
The count at The Open follows hot on the heels of Mizuno’s triumph in snatching the title of No. 1 Iron at the flagship European event, the Volvo PGA Championship, when one in five players choose to play Mizuno.
