A two year, £10 million investment programme has been announced for Old Thorns Hotel, Golf & Country Club at Liphook in Hampshire. The project promotes the resort to a four star deluxe standard, introduces 80 new rooms and expands and upgrades the conference facilities. Seating capacity in Nippon Kan, the Japanese restaurant, will also increase.
The work is planned in two phases, the first of which has been completed: the 18 hole Old Thorns golf course has a new irrigation system and rebuilt and improved bunkers while the fleet of buggies has doubled. A new golfers’ restaurant opened in May.
“The location of Old Thorns together with the charm of its country house ambience and the quality of the golf course have already established its reputation,” said managing director Jonathan Thornton. “We now wish to increase the facilities to cater to growing demand and to upgrade the property to bring it more in line with the quality of our world class resorts in St Andrews and Les Bordes near Orlèans in France.”
The £10 million investment at Old Thorns brings the resort closer to its European counterparts. Kosaido Ltd recently spent over £5 million at the Old Course Hotel Golf Resort & Spa in St Andrews and has also made a substantial investment at Les Bordes. The strategy is to create the finest golf resort portfolio in Europe.
