The tools to grow golf revenues

7.20am 28th September 2006 - Exhibitions & Conferences

As Ireland’s economy expects to announce a £90m boost from this year’s Ryder Cup, the UK’s largest golf industry conference will urge delegates next month: “Don’t wait until Ryder Cup 2010 to make major profits – get your golf business in shape now.” And Conference organisers are at this weekend’s Munich trade show to talk to interested potential delegates.
Places are going fast for the ‘Business of Golf Conference 2006’ (www.businessofgolf2006.com) which features 19 high-profile speakers covering topics ranging from driving profits through online tee-time booking to creating family-friendly venues.
Taking place at Celtic Manor, host venue of the 2010 Ryder Cup, delegates will also get the chance to play some of the holes that will feature in the prestigious event when it returns to the UK in four years’ time.
“Staging the Ryder Cup generates massive revenues for businesses close to it,” said Mike Shields, chairman of the Golf Consultants Association, who run the conference. “But UK golf businesses have to understand the need to plan well ahead and develop long-term strategies to capitalise on the Ryder Cup.
“Sitting back and waiting for it to come around is no guarantee to make money and our conference is specifically tailored to give golf businesses the tools to grow revenues through a wide range of initiatives – all of which have been proven by our speakers.”
The latest speaker to attend is Gill Wilson of CECTA (Central European Countries Travel Association), who will show how she has driven profit by implementing family-friendly golf programmes at the golf club she owns, Rye Hill in Oxfordshire.
Other speakers include Paul Heeney, leading the UK’s drive to internet tee time booking through Online Teetimes Ltd; Ed Doling, indoor golf pioneer; Mel Thomas of golf management and construction specialists 360 Golf; and Roger Pride of Visit Wales, who will talk about the opportunities presented by Ryder Cup 2010.
The Business of Golf ‘Profit from Golf’ 2006 Conference, takes place at Celtic Manor from 29-31 October inclusive. The Golf Consultants Association (GCA) is a group of British-based golf industry experts that delivers advice and solutions to golf business owners around the world.
