London Beach Golf Course in Tenterden, Kent, has been highly commended at the Kent Environment Awards. Part of London Beach Country Hotel, the golf course was a finalist at the awards and recognised for its consideration to the environment in addition to the environmental modifications the hotel made while developing the golf course.
During construction and development, owners of the hotel placed great thought in how to ensure the golf course fulfilled its environmental potential. Land was drained every 10 metres during construction and lakes were incorporated into the course for holding water used for irrigation of the golf course.
A petrol interceptor to filter all surface water off roads and the car park was installed, with the excess water directed to the holding lakes on the golf course.
It is estimated that more than nine million litres of water is saved through these processes annually.
Run by Kent County Council, the Kent Environment Awards recognise and reward Kent businesses for innovative environmental and community work they undertake.
More than £3 million was invested into initiatives to improve the golf course, spa and health club. “I am delighted that our golf course has been recognised by these well respected awards,” said Pierre Edmonds, owner of the hotel. “We’ll continue we ensure saving energy and resources and shall take into consideration environmental impacts when we plan future developments to the hotel.”
