Sand injection for fairways, tees and greens with Blakedown’s “Slitmaster” de-compacts, aerates and increases drainage. This unique machine installs sand filled micro slits at only 250mm centres and up to 250mm deep with no disturbance to play.
To improve rootzone, incorporate “Nutrovate” into the microslits. Nutrovate is a naturally occurring mineral that works to enhance the performance of the rootzone, producing a healthy, hard wearing grass whilst increasing the fertility of the growing medium, reducing the fertiliser requirement.
Drainage systems designed and installed. The company designs and installs primary, pipe drainage systems to secondary surface drainage systems including sand and gravel banding which serves to “unlock” any existing capped drainage system. Campey Turf Care Systems
At Saltex 2004, Campey Turf Care Systems will display a full line-up of equipment designed to speed up and simplify major grounds maintenance tasks while ensuring high quality and playability.
Making its debut at the Show will be the Raycam Speeddresser 24, a bulk drop-spreader with a 2.4m (7ft 10in) spreading width, powered by tractors of 60hp or above. It joins the Speeddresser 18, which has a 1.8m working width and requires a 30-40hp tractor.
Also being shown for the first time at Saltex will be the Raycam Core Harvester, a tractor-towed unit that simplifies clearance after aeration work. Cores are gathered by guides at the side of the unit and collected via a floating head. An integral conveyor places the material into a 580-litre capacity, hi-tipping hopper.
Since their launch earlier this year, Raycam True Level vibrating greens rollers have aroused massive interest. Simply fitted in place of the cutting reels of popular greens mowers, they create a smooth, true surface and firm up newly seeded or turfed areas. A vibrating central roller evens out contours, while an outer roller simultaneously flattens any disturbed areas. The product can be used all year round.
Typical of the Campey line-up designed to maximise turf professionals‘ efficiency are the Dakota Turf Tenders. They enable groundsmen to move materials, top-dress, spread fertiliser and sow grass seed. Trailed versions are available, together with models to fit popular utility vehicles.
The top-of-the-range Dakota 440 trailed machine features a 4.2 cu yd capacity hopper and has an hydraulic swing-away conveyor to facilitate loading. The 420 trailed unit has a 2 cu yd capacity. The smallest version, the 410, has a 23 cu ft capacity is available as a trailed model or as an attachment for a John Deere Gator or a Toro Workman. New to the range is the economical 412, featuring the strong chassis of the 410 and the 420’s hopper. It is designed for rear-disc distribution of bulk materials on all wide area sports turf.
Many turf professionals are implementing preventative management programmes using cost-effective Koro equipment, developed by a Dutch public sector parks superintendent. These dramatically improve waterlogged surfaces cost-effectively and without undue reliance on chemicals. Machines include the Koro Field Topmaker, which slices off the top ground layer to remove thatch and improve drainage, and the Koro Recycling Dresser, which breaks up compacted soil and recycles it as a ready-made top-dressing. The Koro Top Drainer rapidly creates drainage trenches and fills them with sand, while the Koro Sleepraam Harrow restores a level surface. For intensely used areas like soccer goalmouths, the 1.5m-wide Koro Culti-Roll relieves compaction without affecting levels. It tills soil to a maximum depth of 15cm (6in) prior to seeding.
To speed large-scale top-dressing operations, Campeys offer the Raycam Hi-Lift Trailer. The tractor-powered machine can carry more than 3 tonnes of material and is driven by the motive unit’s auxiliary hydraulics. The articulated rear axle is raised quickly to discharge material from a maximum height of 1.4m (4ft 7in) into the operator’s top-dressing unit, allowing work to continue unbroken without the need to fetch more material.

Club Car will use IOG SALTEX 2004 to showcase their three brand new vehicles for only the second time in the UK since their launch this January.
After an exciting start to 2004 with the launch of the Precedent golf car and Carryall 294 AWD utility vehicles, Club Car has surpassed all of the company’s forecasts with first quarter orders up 25 percent on the same period last year. As well as Precedent and Carryall 294, the 4 person version of Club Car’s road legal Run-A-Bout vehicle will be on show for the first time.

SALTEX 2004 will see the UK launch of John Deere’s latest five gang, rear engined commercial mower for local authorities and contractors, alongside a wider range of brand new mowers, utility vehicles and compact tractors.
This new version of the 1905 mower features a Yanmar 47hp four-cylinder diesel engine with hydrostatic transmission and hydraulic diff lock as standard, and optional four wheel drive. It will now be available with 250mm (10in) diameter Jumbo six-blade reels, giving a total mowing width of 3.45m (136in), at cutting heights from 13 to 100mm (0.5 to 4in). These fixed head units are particularly suitable for the commercial and municipal mowing market, as they are designed specifically to handle large volumes of grass.
The Jumbo cutting reels are available in addition to John Deere’s established ESP (extra strength & precision) units, which are the more popular choice for use on golf courses. The operator’s platform comes with a fully adjustable seat equipped with integrated armrest controls, making the mower extremely comfortable and straightforward to drive.
The new John Deere 1905 mower will also be available with or without ROPS, or with a luxury Mauser cab, including optional air conditioning, and an air suspension seat as standard. It can travel at speeds of up to 25kph (15.5mph) on the road, or 13kph (8mph) when mowing, and the 50 litre fuel tank is sufficient for a full day’s work, at an average fuel consumption of 4.5 litres per hour.

Otterbine
Otterbine will give a Saltex launch to its new series of floating aerators for small ponds and other areas of water. Called the Aqua Series, the aerators are designed to provide the answer to commercial and residential owners who require only a small unit or have limited resources.
The products are for use on ponds, lakes and other water features with a surface area of up to only half an acre (2,000 sq m), but which demand ‘dramatic oxygen transfer‘ and intense flow rates. Typical applications would range from golf courses, sports and leisure complexes to fish farms, sports fishing areas and garden ponds.
Capable of operating in just 14 inches of water, the units feature a choice of two attractive spray patterns – AquaGem, which is a ‘trumpet‘ spray, and AquaBlast, a bubbling spring effect that gives more aggressive aeration. On each unit the spray patterns are interchangeable and can be swapped over in just 15 to 20 minutes.

Ransomes Jacobsen
For municipal applications there’s a huge range of equipment from the Ransomes brand including the debut of the Ransomes Spider, a new remotely operated mower for steep banks and slopes. It features a radio frequency remote control handset with a range of up to 50 metres and can tackle slopes with up to a 40° incline. Fail-safe measures are built-in to the mower, which has a 800mm cutting width and is powered by a 4-stroke, two cylinder Kawasaki petrol engine.
Also on display will be the ZT220D zero turn mower with new side discharge deck and the restyled LPG version of the Parkway triple mower with a smoother, rounder and more aesthetically pleasing profile. The stalwart for the preparation of fine turf at football stadia, the Mastiff, has also been upgraded with a new transmission, engine & OPC.
For the golf sector, there’s the UK debut of two new machines from Jacobsen, the AR-3 and the TR-3. Both use the same chassis with the AR-3 featuring 69cm (27″) rotary mulching decks which can be used in either mulching or rear discharge mode by simply moving a deflector. The TR-3 has the proven Tri-King cylinders. The new LF-3407 light fairway mower will also be on show and from the Ryan brand, there’s the GA24 pedestrian aerator with a new OPC.
Following the successful launch of the Iseki TXG23 compact tractor last year, this year sees the introduction of smaller SXG19, powered by a 19hp diesel engine and with 4 wheel drive and hydrostatic transmission.

Springway
Turf experts at Springway are supplying golf clubs, English Heritage, the National Trust and Local Authorities with a simple, yet miraculous cure for tired lawns and sportsfields.
They have created a mixed rubber-and-fibre crumb which can be brushed into worn areas to rescue the grass and encourage quick re-growth.
One of Springway’s first projects was reinforcing the grassed area at the tourist attraction Stonehenge in Wiltshire.
Now the company, based in Frodsham, Cheshire, is hoping to share its ‘secret‘ product with other grounds maintenance managers, greenkeepers and people involved in the management of sports pitches, landscape and amenity facilities.

Terrain Aeration launches Airforce Tracker, the company’s latest terralift aeration machine, following tests of the prototype in a waterlogged back garden.
Weighing 400 kilos, 690mm wide, and mounted on twin rubber tracks that give a ground pressure of just 5 PSI, Airforce Tracker is nimble enough to work within established plantings, but delivers all the power of the ride on Airforce machines.
Terrain’s MD David Green, who has designed and built the new model, says Tracker has the same hydraulic hammer and probe as his standard Airforce machines, but it’s mounted on a Honda HP500 Powered Barrow.
“The diesel powered compressor stays on the trailer and a 50 metre long, high pressure hose connects the two pieces of kit,” he explains. “This means we can inject compressed air up to 20 bar, but have the manoeuvrability needed to work in small spaces.”
Designed principally to relieve compaction panning in domestic back gardens where access is generally limited, Airforce Tracker can be used to treat lawns between flowerbeds in municipal parks, and, due to its light weight and low ground pressure, heavily waterlogged golf greens and sports fields.

StumpBuster heads a group of new-to-the U.K. machines being launched at Saltex by newcomers TurfTools, a Swedish company attending their first European exhibition.
An either PTO or hydraulically driven stump grinder that can be mounted to any tractor from 35hp to 100hp, StumpBuster delivers three to four times the power of a dedicated machine with little difference in purchase price. Featuring single direction cutting (for longer bearing and gearbox life) with an 85cm cutting wheel, the grinder easily takes stumps down to 30cms below ground.
Mounted on a skid steer loader, StumpBuster becomes part of an easily manoeuvrable unit, which performs effectively in compact areas, often impossible to reach with conventional machines.

To celebrate the success of their new fungicide, Insignia, Vitax are mounting a “guess the area” competition, with a magnum of champagne for each day’s winner.
A large container full of the distinctive Insignia packs will be on display, challenging visitors to gauge the area that could be treated should the total contents be applied to sports turf. Whoever’s estimate is the closest to the true figure (in sq metres or hectares) takes that day’s ‘bubbly‘.
Clive Williams, Vitax’s commercial manager, says that apart from being “a bit of fun”, the competition will bring home just how cost effective the product is.
“We usually expect warm soils and moist conditions in September and October, and we think our customers appreciate the long term control of fusarium achieved with Insignia,” he explains. “The competition should demonstrate that a little goes a long way.”
