Stars from the worlds of sport, stage and screen used a handheld GolfBuddy Tour to provide exact yardage readings at Stoke Park Golf Club as part of Justin’s annual fundraiser for Cancer Research UK.
The event was attended by keen golfers including tennis ace Tim Henman, rugby world cup winner Matt Dawson, TV anchorman Steve Rider and broadcaster Chris Evans, and all the players took part in a competition to be nearest the pin with their second shot on the famous Stoke Poges course’s Par 4 12th hole.
The combination of GolfBuddy Tour’s colour screen and movable flag locator enabled the players to get pinpoint yardage readings into the green, which provided an entertaining dimension to the round, in which 22 teams of four were each captained by a high-profile playing celebrity.
John Ennis, GolfBuddy Europe general manager, said: “We were delighted to help Justin Rose in his important fundraising event.
“Of course, he’s used to getting accurate yardages every time from his caddy ‘Fooch’ but this may be the first time many of the amateur players have experienced what it’s like to get precise distances to the pin directly from their angle of approach.
“Golf GPS devices are designed to make the game easier and we hope all the players enjoyed using the GolfBuddy Tour.”
The Justin Rose Tradition Charity Golf Day was first played last year and is supported by a gala dinner and auction in the evening. Justin and his wife, Kate, have each lost a parent to leukemia and cancer and now they devote both their time and money to foundations and charities of cancer sufferers.
They are dedicated to providing funds that will aid the recovery and care, as well as providing comfort and support to families, and ultimately assist in the objective of finding a cure.
Revealing that this year’s event has raised over £170,000, Justin said: “We’re delighted to have raised such a fantastic sum of money for Cancer Research UK and I’d like to thank all the players, celebrities and sponsors – including GolfBuddy – for making it such a special occasion.”
