New documentary goes behind the scenes at 2023 Solheim Cup

The attention to detail, care and hard work which went into the staging of the 2023 Solheim Cup at Finca Cortesin has been brought to life in a new short documentary about the epic matches that took place in Spain last year.

When home hero Carlota Ciganda sank the crucial putt for Team Europe in the evening sun back in September last year, it marked the conclusion of years of meticulous behind-the-scenes preparations across every aspect of the course in southern Spain.

The eight-minute documentary shows in glorious detail the hard work which went into staging the dramatic 14-14 draw which saw holders Europe retain the Cup, from the agronomy and greenkeeping teams to the huge hospitality and media operation as the world homed in on the Cabell B Robinson-designed golf course.

The documentary draws back the curtain on the intense and detailed work which went into staging the biennial event, with the manicured greens and fairways, the immaculately laid out stands and crowd facilities which allowed for a joyous interaction between players, fans and the world’s media at the unforgettable event.

Vicente Rubio, President – Finca Cortesin, appears in the documentary discussing the great pride the resort and surrounding community enjoyed on being awarded the greatest prize in women’s team golf and the immense sense of responsibility which came with it.

“It was the greatest honour for Finca Cortesin to host such an incredible event and we knew the eyes of the world would be upon us. It was such an extraordinary team effort by so many people in so many different areas to bring together what would prove to be such an iconic successful event. We are so very proud to have helped write such a key chapter in the story of the Solheim Cup.

“This documentary gives you an indication of the level of determination, professionalism and commitment that went into the preparations ever since Finca Cortesin was awarded the event. The Club owes so much to so many people for making 2023 a magical year.“

Local hero Ciganda’s pivotal victory on the penultimate 17th hole against world No.1 Nelly Korda will forever be remembered as a defining moment for the tournament. The United States regained the prize trophy at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia in September this year with the event set to return to European soil in 2026.

The resort’s Solheim Cup legacy goes from strength to strength, and the documentary highlights Finca Cortesin’s commitment to elevating the women’s game and showcase its position as one of the world’s best lifestyle and leisure destinations.
