TopGolf, the revolutionary Golf Game Centre has announced the location of its second UK site as Chigwell in Essex. The site is planned to open in March 2004 and will sit alongside a Holmes Place health club and Woolston Manor Golf Club.
TopGolf is a state-of-the-art practice facility where premium golf balls containing tiny microchips are hit from driving bays onto a 250 metre long outfield. The microchip relays the distance and accuracy of each shot to the player’s screen in each bay. The result is a fun, fast moving golf game, which appeals to all ages and abilities of golfers and non-golfers alike.
“TopGolf is a fantastic way of growing the sport and getting more people involved – just look at the number of new players teeing up at the centre”, Richard Flint, Golf Development Manager, English Golf Union.
The concept has proven extremely successful since the Watford TopGolf Game Centre opened at the end of 2000. Of the 90,000 players who have enjoyed TopGolf, half are new to golf and 20% are children.
Winning European Ryder Cup Captain, Sam Torrance comments: “TopGolf is fun golf for everyone, not elite golf for the few. It is always great to see the number of children and families playing at TopGolf.”
The Chigwell site will feature 55 well-equipped driving bays in a two-storey range, golf retail and tuition, as well as a cafà©/bar and corporate entertainment facilities.
Baydrive Group Limited secured ownership of the first TopGolf Game Centre in Watford in October 2002, together with the rights to develop TopGolf in the UK and Ireland. Backed by Henderson Private Capital, it plans to open 10 TopGolf Game Centres throughout the UK and Eire over the next 5 years. “I am delighted to announce the TopGolf Game Centre, Chigwell as the start of our roll-out of the brand throughout the UK and Eire”, says Stephen Lewis, chief executive of the Group.
