The European Seniors Tour will break new ground next year by visiting Italy for the inaugural Italian Senior Open at the outstanding Circolo Golf Venezia at Venice Lido from 14-16 May. Today’s announcement by Andy Stubbs, managing director of the Seniors Tour, and Marco Croze, chairman of Circolo Golf Venezia and Flavio Biondi, managing director of RCS Pubblicità , takes the expanding Seniors Tour to fresh pastures and happily coincides with the 75th anniversary of the host venue.
Just 30 minutes away from Piazza San Marco in the centre of Venice, Circolo Golf Venezia is an 18 hole par 72 layout measuring 6,199 metres and is considered among the leading ten courses in Italy.
The course was founded in 1929 and hosted the Italian Open on three occasions. Arnold Palmer holds the course record of 67.
Marco Croze said, “It is a great pleasure and privilege for the club, and for Italian golf, to stage the first Italian Seniors Open at Circolo Golf Venezia, especially in this, our 75th anniversary.
“I am sure that many of the senior professionals who visit Venice next May will have fond memories of having played at Circolo Golf Venezia on The European Tour in the past. The beauty and history of Venice will add a unique touch to the first Italian Senior Open and the tournament promises to be a very special event indeed.”
