Golf recruiter Promote People, formed in April 2022 by long-standing industry devotees Richard Pilbury, David Reeves & Matthew Orwin, have marked their first full year of trading by donating a percentage of profits to the Footsteps Foundation, a charity local to their offices in Oxfordshire.
Founder Matthew Orwin said “It’s amazing that we’ve been able to donate, in our first year of trading, to this brilliant charity that do incredible work improving the quality of life for children with neurological conditions.”
Promote People offer a range of recruitment services, based on fixed fee packages and a traditional recruitment service for Department Heads General Managers and C-suite appointments. All appointments receive a support package during the recruitment and onboarding process.
Matthew adds “We have taken a different approach to recruiting in Golf, rather than traditional methods of using just job boards and the all the same connections, we use digital marketing to broaden the appeal of the industry and extend our search to get the very best of talent for golf clubs and companies”.
Managing Partner of Promote People, Richard Pilbury, adds “Without sensible planning ahead and by not understanding how the leading online jobs boards work, the industry is struggling to attract the right people.”
The UK economy is continuing to see significant job vacancies – with the leisure and hospitality sectors at the forefront of this challenge.
Pilbury continues, “What’s exacerbating the problem is a misunderstanding of how job websites such as Indeed, TotalJobs and others work. They are, after all, commercial entities. Listings can generate applications, but in the very short term the quality of the candidates can be poor.
Job websites use advanced algorithms to ensure that paid-for ads receive significantly better coverage and therefore a greater volume of candidates. This is a double-edged sword, because you only really want high-quality candidates that are genuine about their application and able to work at the club. Through specific training on the websites and experience we have a tested method of short-cutting to the best talent available”
Promote People have a team of people who all have industry experience and an experienced understanding of the digital golf boards and a wide connection base of senior Golf Industry professions. In their first year Promote People have had 94 instructions with a fulfilment rate of 96%.
Orwin concludes, “Our second year is already looking good and so we’re very keen to make another donation in early 2024 – again to the brilliant Footsteps Foundation. After our recent visit, we were humbled by the amazing work they do – very much filling a gap where our national health service are restricted due to budget.”
