Stuburt, said to be the world’s fastest-growing golf shoe and apparel company, is celebrating after staff player Graeme McDowell secures first major title, the 2010 US Open.
Just 14 days after winning the fifth European Tour title of his career, the 2010 Celtic Manor Wales Open, McDowell held his nerve on a dramatic final day of the US Open Championship at Pebble Beach to secure the greatest win of his career and the first major title in Stuburt’s history.
The 30 year old Northern Irishman finished level par for the tournament, with a three over par final round of 74 enough to hold off France’s Gregory Havret by a single stroke and land the coveted major prize. Joining legends such as Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Tom Kite and Tiger Woods as US Open Champions at the famous California links, GMAC said: “I can’t believe I’m standing here with this (trophy).
“I’ve dreamed of this all my life, two putts to win the US Open, and I couldn’t believe I had a 20 footer to do that. This thing feels amazing.”
Since signing with Stuburt in January, McDowell has turned on the style with a run of form that has seen him all but secure his place in Colin Montgomerie’s European Team to take on the Americans at Celtic Manor in the Ryder Cup 2010.
Wearing his hand-made DCC Stuburt shoes, McDowell stepped into golf elite’s by becoming the first European US Open Champion since Tony Jacklin, another Stuburt fan, in 1970.
McDowell is joined on Team Stuburt by the likes of European Tour rising star Gareth Maybin and brand ambassador Darren Clarke. With sales up year-on-year, a well-received launch into the apparel arena and now a major victory to its name, 2010 promises to be a benchmark year for Stuburt.
