Wyndham Grand Algarve in Quinta do Lago has announced a new partnership with Portuguese DP World Tour golfer Ricardo Santos, who will serve as an ambassador for the resort in 2023.
One of the most promising Portuguese players, Santos is the first Portuguese born and trained in Portugal player to achieve status as a player on the PGA European Tour. Having started playing in the Algarve at nine years old, he turned professional in 2006.
Since then, his curriculum includes victories in 2011 at the Princess by Schüco in Sweden (Challenge Tour) and in 2012 he became the first Portuguese player to win on home soil in the 2012 Madeira Islands, reaching a record low 22 under par for the tournament. The victory helped earn him the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award.
In 2019, Ricardo won the Swiss Challenge en route finishing the Challenge Tour Road to Mallorca rankings insidethe top 15 and earning his return to the European Tour. Ricardo has represented Portugal and the Continental Europe team several times, including in the World Cup and Eisenhower Trophy.
“It’s a privilege and great honour to partner with Wyndham Grand Algarve, and have them associated in the development and consolidation of my career,” said Ricardo, who is passionate about nurturing young talent, and has plans to set up a youth tournament and a charity tournament at Wyndham Grand Algarve in 2023.
