The PGA TOUR is teaming up with streaming giant Netflix for a new docuseries which will follow top players across the season, including at the major championships.

It is the first time the PGA Tour and the governing bodies of the four majors – Augusta National Golf Club, the PGA of America, the USGA and The R&A – will allow such unprecedented access.

In addition to the Masters, PGA Championship, US Open and The Open Championship, other top events will feature in the series, including the FedExCup and the Players Championship.

Filming is already underway, although a release date for the series has not yet been announced.

Announcing the collaboration, the PGA Tour said the series will provide access inside the ropes and behind the scenes, including a close look at ‘the intensity of training, travel, victory, and defeat’.

The series will also feature a wide range of the PGA TOUR’s top players and their support teams, with the likes of Rickie Fowler, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Bubba Watson all set to appear.

The series is being produced by Vox Media, which collaborated with Netflix on the ‘Explained’ series, and Box To Box Films, which has worked on Formula One’s ‘Drive to Survive’ series.

“This partnership with Netflix presents the PGA Tour and the four major championships an opportunity to tap into a completely new and diverse audience,” said Rick Anderson, chief media officer of the PGA Tour. “This documentary will give fans an authentic look into the real lives of our athletes, and what it’s like to win – and lose – during a season on the PGA Tour.”

Brandon Riegg, Netflix vice president of documentary series, added: “We are thrilled to bring golf’s leading organisations and players together for this first-of-its-kind partnership and unparalleled window into life on the tour. Our members will love getting to know the players and personalities as well as the iconic venues along the way. Even the most devoted golf fans have never seen the sport quite like this.”
