The new BA (Hons) degree in Golf Club Management, launched to the industry in May, has received an overwhelmingly positive response from all corners of the UK golf industry. The degree, which is unique in that it has no playing ability requirement, has been created in partnership between The Cornwall College Group, CMM Recruitment and the Golf Club Managers’ Association.
Among the sources of effusive praise for the new programme is Eddie Bullock, the UK’s foremost golf industry consultant, who has been influential in supporting many towards their career aspirations.
Eddie comments: “It’s an exciting new programme and takes golf club management education to the next level. I’m really impressed with how the subject matter is approached – from the practical perspective but then related back to the theory. It also clearly fosters an entrepreneurial approach – thinking outside of the box and looking at the golf club business with a fresh pair of eyes. That’s something the industry needs to encourage.”
Enquiries for the new degree have exceeded all expectations, with the first students starting in September 2021. Applications are also being taken for a September 2022 start.
The new degree is unique in that it doesn’t have any playing aspect or require any playing ability level from the students. It focuses purely on the management of a modern golf club business, with students visiting a wide variety of them – from off-course golf entertainment venues through to established split-equity clubs.
In addition, during the winter semester, they spend time in Portugal and Spain, broadening their perspective on golf management further to include European golf club operations and golf resort management.
