There is plenty of activity on the ‘Costa del Golf’ where Cabell Robinson has no less than three developments on track to open later this year. CG Santana is scheduled for September while La Cala Resort (3rd Course) and La Reserva de Sotogrande are set for sometime in the autumn.
Meanwhile at Alcaidesa near Cadiz the new 18 hole design by Dave Thomas is under construction and should be open for summer 2004. The new development is part of a massive programme of construction at Alcaidesa.
The New Course at San Roque Resort by Perry Dye will open this October, giving this five star location a second championship course to go with some of the finest practice facilities anywhere including the Seve Ballesteros Golf School.

There have been exciting developments at Palheiro Golf course in Madeira where a 䚺 million upgrade has included the building of two new holes – numbers 15 and 16 – and a remodelled clubhouse affording stunning views over Funchal Bay.
The architect for the two new holes is Jorge Santana da Silva. He worked with Cabell Robinson on the original layout which opened in 1994 and is now a partner in the firm of international golf architects, Santana & Krause, with offices in Hamburg and Lisbon.
With the original holes 3 and 4 taken out, the total length of the course is extended from 6,007 to 6,086 metres off the back tees, while the par is increased from 71 to 72.
“The changes mean that the course offers players a fairer challenge of golf,” remarks Palheiro Golf managing director Jonathan Fletcher. “Plus our new ergonomic clubhouse is a stylish facility with a 160-seat regional restaurant and pro shop featuring the fashionable brands of Ralph Lauren and Golfino.”
Future plans include a state-of-the-art golf academy opening in 2005.
