Loch Lomond Golf Club has concluded a transaction to purchase the Southern Gailes golf development near Troon in Ayrshire from the Castle 2000 Property Development Company Ltd.
The outstanding Kyle Phillips designed links golf course will be operated by the Loch Lomond Golf Club management team under the direction of Loch Lomond vice-president, Keith Williams.
Commenting on the acquisition, Williams said, “Southern Gailes is a true links course which will provide an exciting and different venue for our international membership and their guests.
“At present, we are in the process of considering the various operational options available to us and, once plans are in place, we would hope to open the course for play in July this year.”
Loch Lomond president and chairman of the Anderson Companies, Lyle Anderson said, “”We are truly excited about the acquisition of Southern Gailes. There is not one hole on the entire course that isn‘t superbly designed. I really believe it has the potential to become recognised as one of the great links courses anywhere.”
The acquisition was funded with the assistance of Loch Lomond Golf Club’s bankers Bank of Scotland. Ian Robertson, managing director of corporate banking, Bank of Scotland said, “The Bank is very pleased to have had this further opportunity to assist in the expansion of the Anderson Companies’ interests in Scotland.”
Yacub Ali of Castle 2000 who has sold the golf course said: “I am delighted to have been involved in creating a course which will be a permanent addition to Scotland’s golfing infrastructure. I am equally pleased that it will be taken forward to the next stage by such a prestigious company as Loch Lomond.”
Loch Lomond Golf Club is home to the £2.2 million Barclays Scottish Open, one of the premier events on the European Tour International Schedule. This year’s tournament takes place at Loch Lomond from 10-13 July 2003
