Diamond Golf has announced the death of its former Sales Director Colin Lord, a veteran of the golf industry for over 40 years.

Colin, 81, passed away on November 9 following a short illness.

Colin was involved within the golf industry for more than four decades and was instrumental in creating and running the first European golf trade exhibition, which was held at The Metropole Hotel in Brighton in the early 1980s.

Demand from companies wishing to exhibit was so strong that the show moved to a larger facility at Sandown Racecourse, and then moved again a few years later to the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, where the show continued until the end of 1990s.

Colin joined Diamond Golf in 1995 and instantly became a valuable member of the sales team. He went on to become Sales Director in 2001.

Diamond Golf Managing Director Daren Treacy said: “Colin was real character, outrageously charming and very cheeky. He was a magnificent story-teller and famously captivating in discussion. His enthusiasm for life and work was boundless, so much so that he carried on working for Diamond Golf until 2018, when he finally retired at the age of 79.

“Colin will always have a special place in our hearts and will never be forgotten. Our heartfelt best wishes go to his wife Maureen, daughter Vicky, son Jolian, and all the family.”

A keen golfer, Colin would play every week at Littlehampton Golf Club in West Sussex, where he was a long-standing member.

Colin’s funeral will be held in Bognor Regis, West Sussex, on November 24 at 10am. Anyone wishing to make a donation to St Wilfrid’s Hospice in his memory can do so by visiting www.reynoldsfunerals.co.uk
