The Celtic Manor Resort has appointed a golf sales manager as it seeks to maximise the benefits of hosting the Ryder Cup later this year.
Seán Clancy takes on the brand new role having held previous sales management positions at Carr Golf Travel, Ireland’s largest golf tour operator, and Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links in Dublin.
Arriving with strong contacts among international golf tour operators, travel agents and corporate golf bookers, Mr Clancy is tasked with building golf sales still further at Celtic Manor, which enjoyed a record year for golf visitors in 2009.
He will be responsible for generating bookings from groups of golfers covering a broad spectrum from local companies and societies to overseas golf travellers and corporate clients.
“I am very excited about joining The Celtic Manor Resort in this Ryder Cup year,” said Mr Clancy, a six-handicap golfer. I have been involved in the golf travel business for the last seven years and it is a real thrill to be starting in a new position at such a prestigious sporting venue.
“I was a senior marshal at the Ryder Cup in Ireland in 2006 and my duties included escorting the players’ wives, media and VIP officials around the course. It will be great to be closely involved again this year as part of my actual job.
“The Ryder Cup captures everybody’s imagination and I’ve already found that there is a real buzz about Celtic Manor within the golf industry at the moment. I’m looking forward to making sure as many golfers as possible get the opportunity to play the resort’s three fantastic championship courses.”
The Celtic Manor Resort attracted more golfing visitors than ever before in 2009 when the Ryder Cup effect combined with some attractive stay and play packages saw thousands of players take on the spectacular challenge of the Twenty Ten Course. Bookings again look strong for this summer when the course will remain open until four weeks before the Ryder Cup commences on 1 October.
