With Continue to Learn at BTME a little more than a month away, BIGGA’s Young Greenkeepers Committee (YGC) has created an exciting programme of content aimed directly at the younger generation of greenkeepers.
The Young Greenkeepers Committee is a group of BIGGA embers aged 29 and under who work to provide more opportunities for greenkeepers just starting out in their careers to gain the best education and networking opportunities, helping to secure and improve the future of the industry.
The YGC conference is not only an opportunity to learn from the fantastic education on offer, bit it is also a great chance to bring together people from all over the country and connect through a networking lunch.
In just its second year, the YGC Conference may still be in its infancy, but it is sure to benefit anyone who attends. After a very successful debut at BTME 2018 with over 70 in attendance, this year’s conference takes place on Wednesday 23 January and will mix the technical and personal development aspects of the job.
Attendees can learn about the basics of constructing a putting green with good drainage to USGA specifications and the importance of face-to-face communication in an era where phones and social media play a large part in society.
With the Young Greenkeepers’ Committee’s main purpose being to engage with the younger generation to ensure BIGGA’s products and services remain relevant, the YGC has also created a free career development session on Tuesday 22 January, where they hope to show how the opportunities available can help with career progression and the importance of building a support network through your peers. This talk will highlight the different opportunities that are available and guide those who attend on their route to a successful career.
