Funding for junior coaching

8.30am 28th June 2002 - Sponsorship & Events

The English Golf Union in partnership with Marsh Sports Group and Royal SunAlliance has announced that funding for the fourth year of the Junior Club Coaching Programme is still available.

The Programme is aimed at encouraging golf clubs to open up more opportunities for juniors and works in conjunction with the England Junior Development Plan. To date over 890 clubs have received grant aid and over 29,000 young golfers have received coaching.

The initiative offers golf clubs a grant of £100 towards junior coaching which the club is asked to match. This fund will then enable the club to provide boys and girls with 10 free one-hour lessons delivered by PGA professionals or assistant professionals who have completed year 1 of the PGA trainee course. With the summer holidays just around the corner, this is an ideal opportunity for all clubs.

All golf clubs affiliated to the EGU are eligible to apply for the grant aid and those who wish to do so or have any queries in relation to the programme should contact the EGU’s Development Department on 01526 354500. Alternatively, further information and an application form can be seen and downloaded from the junior section of the EGU website www.englishgolfunion.org

The English Golf Union would like to take the opportunity to encourage the support of junior golf because “talent is nothing without the opportunity”.
