Purchasing Partnership Drives Golf Club Costs Down

7.50am 8th September 2017 - Management Topics

Hundreds of UK golf clubs are benefitting from significant savings to their food and drink bills, thanks to a powerful purchasing partnership.

Leading leisure and hospitality procurement specialist, the Regency Purchasing Group, joined forces with Material Matters Limited three years ago.

One of the many clubs to benefit from this partnership is Mill Ride Golf Club in Ascot, which reported business savings of 26% in the Food and drinks category.

General Manager Robin Greenwood said: “Getting started with the partnership was very straight-forward, and as time has gone on, the relationship has gone from strength to strength.

“There is a real understanding of the business and the complexities of dealing with everyone from the head greenkeeper to the head chef.

“We have quarterly review meetings, and find these essential in being able to feedback and sense-check the various costs we have been our two businesses. It also raises occasions where there’s an area of purchasing we’ve yet to have a quote on, and this allows us to achieve further savings. The team also provide proactive management of certain areas such as contract matters, utilities and following up on quoted jobs to track progress.”

Regency’s National Account Manager, Sian Collins, said: “Working alongside Paul Mould and the team at Material Matters has helped create many new member relationships for us.

“In return, we’ve added value to the support package they can offer their customers. We specialise in food and beverage and Material Matters specialise in the golf course suppliers and clubhouse spends, so the clubs have the benefit of all these cost bases covered.

“The crucial part is the level of service and saving we’ve managed to secure across an array of categories for golf clubs across the country, a welcome boost to them at a time when the current economic climate is proving to be extremely challenging for many organisations within the hospitality and leisure sector.”

Paul Mould, Director of Material Matters, said: “Mill Ride is a perfect example of this partnership providing the best possible purchasing support, resulting in significant savings for this fast-moving, exciting and successful business.

“Most importantly, all our objectives are aligned, and it’s as if we are Mill Ride’s very own purchasing department, and hopefully his first port of call for any supply, contract, buying or spend questions he may have.”

Based in the West Country, the Regency Purchasing Group has been helping businesses nationwide save money on their outgoings for 30 years. Today, Regency works with more than 60 suppliers, helping to service more than 2,400 members.

Material Matters Limited was formed in 2010 to provide expert purchasing support for more than 300 golf clubs nationwide and now supported with a £12 million spend.
