When the world’s largest sports organisation makes tracks to Asia, it’s time for everyone in the Asian golf industry to take note.
The entry of the PGA of America into Asia brings with it the promise of change and growth for the game of golf and whichever way one looks at it, it’s only going to spell a lot of good for the Asian golf industry, writes Mike Sebastian.
The century-old organisation is comprised of 28,000 men and women golf professionals who are recognized experts in teaching and growing the game.
The messenger from the PGA of America to the Asia Pacific Golf Summit is Arjun H. Chowdri, Senior Director, Global & Corporate Strategy who is charged with the mission to expand its presence outside of North America.
This global initiative is a perfect fit with the APGS 2017 theme which is ‘NEW DIRECTIONS’ and the PGA of America has a lot on offer as it sets course for its expansion in Asia.
It has a rich resource base when it comes to teaching and growing the game of golf which is something that it has led in the U.S. since 1916. This is where Asia stands to benefit tremendously as the PGA of America hopes to work closely with parties in Asia to elevate standards and professionalism as it relates to golf.
These efforts have already started with the PGA of America’s signature youth golf programme, the PGA Junior League Golf in China.
It has also formed a ground-breaking strategic alliance in South Korea to create PGA of America Academies in that country which will proactively place PGA of America members in a position to help drive long-term growth of the game in South Korea.
Like the China and South Korean initiatives, establishments in other parts of Asia will have the opportunity to create comprehensive junior programmes and professional education programmes that will elevate the game for years to come.
The PGA of America’s presence in Asia and its programmes are a welcome change and going forward, the vast resources and the wealth of experience of the PGA of America will contribute towards golf clubs throughout the region being able to take advantage of professional guidance in key areas like coaching, training, management and the operation of golf academies.
Make a date to hear first-hand how the PGA of America can help with the training of your juniors, set-up quality learning academies and create a pathway to grow the game of golf in Asia. Be part of the exciting NEW DIRECTIONS that is transforming the golf club industry in Asia!
