GOLFZON at the HSBC Golf Zone, Open Championship

GOLFZON, a leading provider of golf simulators, had a successful stint two weeks ago on site during the 146th Open Championship. GOLFZON Ambassador Matt Kuchar battled eventual winner Jordan Spieth on the weekend before finishing second, his best finish in a major championship. Off the course, GOLFZON presented its state-of-the-art golf simulators to record crowds at the world’s oldest major golf championship.

Kuchar, a 39-year-old Sea Island, Ga., resident, recently became a GOLFZON Ambassador. He shot 66-69 on the weekend in the same final pairing with Spieth during the third major championship of the season, finishing three behind Spieth. Kuchar has finished tied for fourth at the Masters, tied for 16th at the U.S. Open and now second at the game’s oldest major. It is the best season of major championship finishes for Kuchar in his 17-year professional career.

GOLFZON had two simulators on site at Royal Birkdale Golf Club, located in the HSBC Golf Zone as a part of the Spectator Village. A Nearest to the Pin challenge was held on a simulator using the Driving Range mode with shots from a distance of 50 yards and a Longest Drive on the Road Hole, No. 17, at The Old Course, St. Andrews, was held on another simulator. Both simulators used the GDR system, a golf training simulator integrating a sensor and high resolution dual camera.

A record-breaking crowd of 235,000 spectators – the most for any Open Championship played outside of St. Andrews – attended the tournament and found easy access to the Spectator Village that had food and beverage options, a children’s play area and giant television screens beside the HSBC Golf Zone.

“We continue to be excited with the reception that fans at the Open Championship have had to experiencing GOLFZON simulators,” said Tommy Lim, Senior Vice President of GOLFZON. “GOLFZON’s global presence is displayed at events such as the Open Championship, the oldest professional event in the world, and at other venues and events around the world as we strive to make the game fun for everyone.”

GOLFZON will be a participant in other events, to be announced, during the summer and the remainder of 2017 in the UK, Europe and the United States.
