ProQuip Golf, the world’s leading innovator of lightweight golf weatherwear, has announced the appointment of Scottish golf professionals Heather MacRae and Chris Kelly as brand ambassadors for the 2013-14 season.

The Scottish weatherwear company, based in Dumfriesshire, unveiled the pair at Gleneagles – venue for The 2014 Ryder Cup – during the PGA European Tour’s Johnnie Walker Championship, played at the Perthshire resort last weekend.

ProQuip Golf, a Preferred Supplier to The 2014 European Ryder Cup Team, will provide a complete golf wardrobe to both professionals, including waterproofs, knitwear, polo shirts, wind tops and base layers.

Russell Brooks, general manager of ProQuip Golf, said: “ProQuip is proud of its Scottish heritage and committed to helping grow the sport in Scotland. That’s why we have chosen to support Heather and Chris – two dedicated and driven individuals – as they strive to reach the top in men’s and women’s professional golf.

This season and next are particularly important for Scottish golf, as 2014 is the year of Scotland’s Ryder Cup, with the matches being played at Gleneagles that October.”

Chris Kelly, 34, is a former Scottish PGA Champion and winner of over 45 professional golf events. He currently plays on the PGA EuroPro Tour, in Scottish PGA events and on The Tartan Tour. His goal is to secure full time playing privileges on the Challenge Tour and then the PGA European Tour.

Heather MacRae, 28, from Dunblane, enjoyed a hugely successful amateur career – representing Scotland at every level, winning the British Ladies Strokeplay Championship and representing Great Britain and Ireland in the Vagliano Trophy.

Heather plays on the LET Access Tour, the feeder tour to the Ladies European Tour, and won her first professional event at the Solvesborg Women’s Open in Sweden in May this year.

Supporting Scotland

Heather said: “It’s great to see an established Scottish golf company investing in the game and encouraging talented professionals to push to achieve their dreams. ProQuip offers a complete performance golf clothing system, from base layer to outer layer, and enable me to stay dry, comfortable and feeling loose and relaxed – which is essential to playing my best golf.”

Russell Brooks, added: “Heather and Chris are the perfect fit for the ProQuip brand and its 30-years’ heritage crafting weatherwear in the ‘Home of Golf.’ The eyes of the golfing world are on Scotland and it’s a perfect time to invest in the national game and in two of the country’s top young professionals.”

ProQuip Golf will provide its innovative outerwear and exclusive fabric technology to Paul McGinley’s team for the 40th playing of The Ryder Cup, which was first established in 1927 as a contest between golf professionals from America and Great Britain and Ireland.

ProQuip has supplied more Ryder Cup Teams – European and American – than any other clothing brand and has been chosen by 19 Ryder Cup Captains to provide its weatherwear for the bi-annual golf matches.

Chris and Heather will support ProQuip by taking part in promotional activity for the company and appearing in its product catalogue.
