Troon®, the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing is celebrating after one of its most successful International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) exhibitions.
With representatives of 10 of its EMEA managed properties using the exhibition to both renew existing contracts and establish new relationships, this key event has become an integral part of Troon’s successful marketing strategy to help its many venues take full advantage of the lucrative golf tourism market.
“We recognise the importance of the specialist Tour Operator as a channel to bring quality golfers to our clubs and resorts and it is gratifying that our focus on great golf course conditioning and looking after our golfers once they arrive is recognised by this important sector,” commented Bruce Glasco, Senior Vice-President and Managing Director, Troon International Operations.
Further proof of this recognition came with the announcement that the magnificent Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort in Morocco has been awarded the title “Golf Resort of the Year – Rest of the World” by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators at the recent IAGTO Awards dinner at the show. This major accolade for the stunning beach-front facility is testament to a combination of key factors, including Troon’s industry-renowned course conditioning, the significant role the resort has played in the rapid development of golf in Morocco and the breathtaking Gary Player design that provides guests with a thrilling golfing experience flanked by jaw-dropping views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Glasco added, “We are involved with a number of projects in Morocco and believe that this award will further encourage all groups involved with Moroccan tourism to redouble their efforts to ensure the more general golfing population appreciates the great experiences and opportunities it presents. Mazagan is truly one of the world’s most unique golfing propositions. Its impressive visuals of the Atlantic coastline have clearly made an impact, as has the quality and first-class conditioning of the golf course that our expert agronomy team has worked tirelessly to achieve.”
An unforgettable modern links golf challenge for players of all abilities, the Gary Player designed course has been identified as one of his very best, thanks to its immaculate fairways and greens of the highest quality. By following the natural contours of the sand dunes, Player has respected the natural environment and features of the land. Its location, just one hour from Casablanca, has been convenient for international travellers looking to escape city life. While minimal rainfall throughout the year ensures that the course is always in stunning condition.
Accepting the award in Portugal, Terrance Mohamed, Director of Golf at Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort noted, “Out of more than 2,000 golf resorts around the world, Mazagan is thrilled to have been named the winner of this category. Since opening in October 2009 we have been striving to establish ourselves as leaders in the golf industry, so this award strengthens our position as one of the best golf resorts on the market today. The team at Troon has been integral to our growth since the beginning from a golf management and agronomic perspective, as well as the ability to bring attention from the world’s leading golf media.”
Mazagan’s award followed the announcement earlier in the evening’s proceedings of another Troon managed facility, LUMINE Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community, in Spain’s Costa Dorada region, being selected as the host venue for the 2013 International Golf Travel Market. Together these accolades further enhance the reputation of the world’s leading management company, whose managed properties have picked up a plethora of awards over the last 12 months. Las Colinas Golf & Country Club, Spain, and Costa Navarino, Greece, were both named on Golf World magazine’s list of the Top 100 golf courses in Continental Europe, while Abu Dhabi Golf Club and Saadiyat Beach Golf Club were both an integral part of Abu Dhabi winning IAGTO’s ‘Golf Destination of the Year – Africa & Gulf States’ honour for 2012.
