The Onyria Marinha Edition Hotel & Thalasso, in Cascais, Portugal, is the third-best hotel in the world according to the millions of tourists who use the world’s largest travel site, TripAdvisor® – and all after just its first full year of operation.

The five-star venue was beaten only by the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, Hawaii, and South Africa’s Cape Grace, Cape Town Central, South Africa, in the TripAdvisor® Travelers’ Choice Awards for 2013, making the Portuguese hotel Europe’s #1. The awards were decided by the votes of the millions of visitors to the TripAdvisor® website, which sees more than 60 new contributions posted every minute.

Located in the delightful Quinta da Marinha – close to Cascais, on the Lisbon coast – alongside the King Carlos Hunting Pavilion, the luxurious five-star boutique Onyria Marinha Edition Hotel & Thalasso opened in April 2011 and has previously been awarded “best service quality” from Turismo de Portugal.

It sits adjacent to the Robert Trent Jones Sr-designed Quinta da Marinha golf course which enjoys magnificent views to the Atlantic Ocean and the mountain of Sintra. The hotel offers deluxe rooms or suites, all with large bathrooms and king-size beds. It also has a Thalasso therapy centre and a spa for therapeutic, beauty and relaxation treatments with sea water, ideal to refresh, rejuvenate and reinvigorate body and soul.

It is yet another accolade for Onyria Golf Resorts – the hotel’s parent company – which, only last November, was acclaimed as the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) golf tourism supplier of the year, at the annual IAGTO Awards dinner.

João Pinto Coelho, Onyria Golf Resorts’ commercial director, said: “It is a great honour for us that Onyria Marinha Edition Hotel & Thalasso has achieved this accolade. What makes it more special is that this is voted for by the people who actually come to stay at the hotel. Achieving this level of customer satisfaction is always our aim across all our properties and credit to the team at the hotel for their outstanding efforts.

“The challenge now, of course, is for our properties to maintain the award-winning standards we have set ourselves.”

Onyria Golf Resorts has two golf developments in Portugal: Onyria Palmares Beach & Golf Resort, in the Algarve, and Quinta da Marinha Resort, on the Lisbon Golf Coast, which itself was named IAGTO’s best European golf destination in 2007. It also owns the Onyria Claros Beach & Spa Resort, in Izmir, Turkey.

The outstanding Onyria Palmares Beach & Golf Resort – which reopened only in 2011 – has already racked up a number of awards and accolades, including becoming a new entry, at 26, in Golf World’s poll of the Top 100 European Golf Courses.

The Quinta da Marinha Resort offers hospitality in the 198-room, five-star Hotel Quinta da Marinha, a member of the luxury collection of the Great Hotels of the World group, and in 40 one or two-bedroom townhouses.
