The Grove is celebrating its 20th anniversary having recently completed a major three-year refurbishment project.
Since its inception in 2003, the resort has set new standards for luxury, hospitality, and championship golf, showcasing a variety of world-class facilities. Recent investments have led to a series of improvements across the resort, including Stables Bar & Restaurant and Sequoia Spa, highlighting The Grove’s ambition to become Britain’s most loved luxury destination.
With a rich history dating back to the 1500s, The Grove’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. From a riding school and health centre in the 1920s, to a wartime headquarters during the 1940s, guests can still sample its unique history with new rooms and suites having been unveiled in the recently renovated 18th Century Mansion House.
Designed by world-leading golf course architect Kyle Philips, the championship course at The Grove gained global recognition after it hosted the 2006 WGC American Express – the only WGC event to ever be held in the UK – won by Tiger Woods, marking his sixth consecutive stroke play win at the time.
From golfing royalty to presidential visits, The Grove has also hosted Barack Obama for 18 holes against Prime Minister David Cameron in 2016, in addition to the world’s most important leaders as they gathered to mark the 70th anniversary of NATO in 2019.
The resort’s impressive reputation has continued to be showcased by the numerous accolades received throughout its history, having proudly claimed the coveted spot of No.1 in Golf World’s Top 100 Golf Resorts in England, as well as ‘Best Immersive Experience’ at the 2023 Conde Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence.
Speaking about the 20th anniversary of The Grove, Brad Gould, Director of Golf, said: “As we celebrate two decades of excellence, The Grove stands as a testament to our dedication to delivering an exceptional golfing experience. The journey has been nothing short of remarkable, marked by memorable moments on the fairways, the bond of our guests, and enduring spirit of the sport. Here’s to many more years of shared joy and unforgettable experiences.”
Inclusivity is a key pillar for the resort with a strong commitment to women’s golf, demonstrated by becoming a signatory to The R&A’s Women in Golf Charter in May 2022, followed by the hosting of a Rose Ladies Series event earlier this year.
As one of the UK’s most eco-friendly golf resorts, The Grove achieved GEO Certified status for successfully implementing sustainable operations; a key factor in being named ‘Environmental Golf Course of the Year’ at the 2022 Golf Environment Awards.
Since the resort’s opening, The Grove has welcomed 5,000 employees representing 77 different nationalities. Among them are current staff who have been a part of The Grove since its beginning. To celebrate this milestone, The Grove is set to host an Alumni Day, uniting former employees who have played a significant role in shaping its journey and legacy for a round of golf, dinner and overnight stay at the resort.
