The Tenerife Tourism Corporation (TTC) has appointed international golf and travel marcomms specialist The Azalea Group to spearhead its campaign to become a leading year-round golfing attraction.
Already recognised as a destination that offers northern European golfers plenty in the winter months, the TTC’s golfing arm – Tenerife Golf – has recruited the services of Azalea to not only increase positive media coverage within Europe’s key golf travel market, but also help showcase this unique island as a stand-out golf holiday proposition between April and October.
The largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife offers a variety of nine diverse courses. Average summer temperatures of 23°C provide the ideal climate to enjoy a relaxing golf break thanks to cooling trade winds, and golf and hotel rates are generally 20 per cent cheaper than in winter time.
The Tenerife Golf brand is responsible for promoting nine unique golf course members, 14 four and five-star hotel partners and a local golf retail store and ground transportation company.
In addition, Tenerife Golf is involved with the organisation of notable amateur and professional golf events on the island, which in 2014 includes the Ladies’ Spanish Open, taking place at Golf Costa Adeje between September 18-21.
Tenerife Golf welcomed the appointment of Azalea and said: “Tenerife is known as ‘the island of eternal spring’ due to our excellent warm temperatures, making it the perfect place to play golf 12 months a year.
“Wherever you are golfing on the island, Tenerife has something for all ages and abilities to enjoy and an impeccable range of quality accommodation well-versed in the needs of travelling golfers.
“We are delighted to be working with The Azalea Group to highlight the many benefits golfers can experience throughout the year.”
Tenerife features nine different and varied layouts: Buenavista in the west, Real Club de Golf de Tenerife in the north and Golf Costa Adeje, Abama, Las Americas, Golf del Sur, Amarilla, and Los Palos in the south. Tecina Golf is a 40-minute ferry ride from the mainland on the beautiful island of La Gomera.
Sean Noble, managing director for The Azalea Group, said: “For years, people have been visiting Tenerife in the winter from the UK. This has helped its popularity as a winter golfing destination grow but with longer days, courses that are in perfect condition, great temperatures, incredible flight access and rates that are significantly lower in winter season, Tenerife has everything needed for the ideal summer golfing break.”
