Now in its 16th year, VisitScotland expect the Scottish Borders Golfing Breaks 2006 Guide and ‘Scotland’s Best Selling Golf Pass’, Freedom of the Fairways to reach some major milestones.
Sales of the 2006 Freedom of the Fairway golf pass are projected to pass the 40,000 mark since its introduction in 1991, totalling nearly a quarter of a million rounds of golf.
Twenty one golf courses in the Scottish Borders take part in the scheme with 19 also offering tee times during extremely popular periods, including weekends.
Freedom of the Fairways pass aims to be very flexible and would suit the needs of almost every golfer, with the number of days available for play and the variety of golf courses that are included in the scheme.
The award winning pass continues to be Scotland’s most popular scheme, offering great value for money with access to both 9 and 18 hole courses, including the Borders’ two championship courses – The Roxburghe near Kelso and Cardrona near Peebles.
Year on year the Scottish Borders continues to grow in popularity with golfers across the UK and Ireland with many returning annually due to the combination of value for money, stunning countryside, magnificent courses with uncrowded fairways and friendly staff; all within an accessible location.
Commenting on the performance VisitScotland Borders area director Fiona Drane said, “We are delighted that all our hard work and highly targeted marketing has produced such impressive results. The scheme just goes from strength and proves that by effective packaging and promotion the Borders can compete effectively in what is a highly competitive marketplace.”
A five day Freedom of the Fairways golf pass for up to 10 rounds over five consecutive days is now available for £99, while a three day pass for up to six rounds on three consecutive days costs just £72.
Junior five and three day passes for under 17s are available for £49 and £33 respectively. The new Seniors Pass for golfers over 55 years costs £57 for five days and 5 rounds, or £44 for three rounds and three days.
Freedom of the Fairways pass holders also have the option of special accommodation packages with many hotels, b&bs and self catering properties offering reduced rates.
