Praia D’El Rey Golf Marriott and Beach Resort has further cemented its reputation among Europe’s elite golfing venues after latest figures revealed that it is Portugal’s most popular golf resort outside of the Algarve.
New numbers show that business is booming at the resort, with more than 33,000 rounds of golf played in the first five months this year on its two 18-hole championship courses – Praia D’El Rey and West Cliffs Golf Links, named ‘World’s Best New Golf Course’ at the 2017 World Golf Awards.
Praia D’El Rey has seen a 2018 increase of more than seven per cent on green fees booked on the corresponding period last year – with bookings up by nearly 20 per cent in May alone. And the numbers are just as impressive at West Cliffs, with more than 14,000 rounds having been played this year.
Francisco Cadete, director of golf at Praia D’El Rey Marriott Golf & Beach Resort and West Cliffs Golf Links, said: “Some courses have found it a struggle to attract visiting golfers but we have been busier than ever this year, which is all the more pleasing bearing in mind the tremendous competition that there is in the Portuguese golf market.
“With two outstanding golf courses, updated practice facilities and an array of other first-class sports and leisure facilities, Praia D’El Rey has everything needed for a luxury golf break, and we’re confident that the additional investment that we’ve made this year will help the resort continue to prosper in the future.”
Situated less than an hour north of Lisbon on Portugal’s Silver Coast, West Cliffs has been created over 200 hectares of natural landscape and rolling sand dunes, and offers sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean from each hole.
Complementing it is Praia D’El Rey’s 18-hole championship course and an array of other world-class sports and leisure facilities, including a recently-renovated golf academy, remodelled five-star ocean front and ocean premium accommodation at a cost of nearly €1m and an upgrade of its restaurant facilities.
And golfers can enjoy outstanding value when visiting the resort this autumn, with breaks starting from €285 per person for a three-night, two-round hotel package including 18 holes on each course.
