The Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa in St Andrews has been honoured with the prestigious accolade of ‘Scotland’s Leading Golf Resort’ at the World Travel Awards 2011 Europe Ceremony staged in Turkey earlier this month (September 2).
The Old Course Hotel, located on the iconic 17th Road Hole of the Old Course in the Home of Golf, triumphed over strong competition from the likes of Gleneagles and Turnberry to win the award for an amazing seventh time since 2004.
The accolade for the 5 Red Star Old Course Hotel reflects the continued commitment and hard work of the Hotel team to provide the ultimate luxury golf experience through a combination of service, luxurious accommodation, gourmet cuisine, a Kohler Waters Spa, its own championship heathland golf course as well as easy access to some of Scotland’s most beguiling and well-known links courses.
The Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa is also the ideal base from which to explore the seven links courses – including the Old Course itself – that comprise the St Andrews Links Trust, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie as well as a host of hidden gems around the region.
Three miles from the Hotel, the Kohler-owned Duke’s course was designed by five-time Open Champion, Peter Thomson, and renovated in 2006 by American architect Tim Liddy who transformed it into a heathland masterpiece with five completely new holes, five tees on each hole and the establishment of a plethora of traditional, rough-edged bunkers. Recently positioned by Golf World magazine in the UK’s top 100 courses, The Duke’s St Andrews is now on many golfers ‘Must Play’ lists.
The prestigious award also highlights the superb golfing facilities on offer at The Duke’s that include a driving range, putting green, chipping and bunker area, a fleet of golf buggys, a host of PGA Professionals as well as a pad to land your helicopter. The Duke’s Clubhouse, with its spectacular panoramic views over the Auld Grey Toon, West Sands and theGrampian Mountains, offers golfers five-star service and the finest Scottish cuisine at The Duke’s Bar & Grill.
