The popular four-star resort near Bordeaux was named France’s Leading Golf Resort at a glittering awards ceremony in London – described by some as the travel industry’s equivalent to the Oscars.

Golf du Médoc offers a selection of hotel rooms and suites, two championship golf courses, extensive spa and leisure facilities as well as easy access to the hundreds of wine chateaux in the region.

Its two golf courses, Les Chateaux and Les Vignes, have played host to a number of prestigious championships including the French Open, Challenge Tour Grand Final and the French PGA.

The World Travel Awards is the most comprehensive and prestigious awards programme in the global travel industry and was established in 1993 to acknowledge and celebrate excellence in travel and tourism.

With thousands of votes cast by travel professionals from 183,000 travel agencies in more than 160 countries globally, winning a World Travel Award has become one of the highest accolades a travel product can receive.

The international recognition is the latest in a list of accolades for Golf du Médoc, which is situated just 30 minutes’ drive from Bordeaux airport and the city centre.

Regularly rated in the top five courses in the country, the resort’s Chateaux Course features a mixture of heather and broom, water hazards, well-placed ditches and fast greens.

South African Retief Goosen emerged as the winner when the links-style layout held the French Open in 1999 and the course was again chosen to stage this year’s French PGA Championship.

The Les Vignes Course, which measures 6,842 yards in length, is a gentler but no less memorable test as it meanders through a regional mixture of moors and pines, with the emphasis on course strategy rather than length.

Henry Martinet, general manager of Golf Du Médoc Hotel & Spa, said: “We are very proud at Golf Du Médoc to be able to offer our guests not just two great golf courses but some of the finest vineyards in the world. The two together are rarely found so close together and this means our visitors really can experience the best of both worlds.”
