The Father & Son Golf Championship, now in its eighth year, has opened up its entries to Father & Daughter partnerships.
The popular tournament sees Father & Sons from all over Europe competing for the title of European Father & Son Champions. The winning scratch and handicap pairs get invites to go on and represent Europe in the Father & Son Championship finals in both Australia and the USA. This year those winning pairs could be a Father & Daughter.
Tournament Director Toby Marsden said: “After seeing that the PNC Father & Son Golf Championship in America changed their rules to allow daughters to complete we felt that we should follow suit and also allow daughters to enter with their fathers.
“In a world where our time is so devoted to work, this event was created to be a celebration of family, bringing people together to share a memorable and special time. Opening up the entries to daughters, as well as sons, allows the tournament to be a true family affair.
“It’s the first year we have done this and hopefully over time we will attract a truly international field where everyone can come and be part of something very special.”
The European Father & Son Championship takes place 26-31 October in Jerez, Spain. The tournament is being played over two courses, Costa Ballena and Sherry Golf, with the magnificent Hotel Elba Costa Ballena resort with its wonderful spa & beach accommodating competitors.
The format is a 54-hole better ball championship at the end of which both a Scratch and Handicap pair will be crowned European champions. The tournament is televised on Sky Sports, giving ordinary club golfers the opportunity to experience the thrill of a professionally-run PGA-style tournament, with TV cameras, press, spectators, caddies and announcers.
Once again teams from all over the world are taking part, including the reigning American and Australian Father & Son Champions who are making the transatlantic trip to compete. Former Ryder Cup star Philip Price and his son Edward are also among the competitors, which as well as being a serious competition, is designed to be a fun family holiday in the Andalusian sun.
There are still team places available to enter from £599 per person. The price includes entry to the 54-hole tournament, accommodation, transfers a welcome drinks reception and banquet gala dinner.
