Fairway to Furlong is Perfect Preparation for Glorious Goodwood

7.05am 16th July 2012 - Travel

Glorious Goodwood is a national institution and golfers are being offered the perfect way to prepare for one of the highlights of the sporting summer by competing in an exciting new event – the first official Glorious Goodwood Golf Day.

Following the success of similar days at the Cheltenham Festival and Royal Ascot, Fairway to Furlong will stage the inaugural event on Monday 30 July and it is guaranteed to whet the appetite of any golfer who is passionate about the Sport of Kings.

More than 150 people attended this month’s Royal Ascot Golf Day, including Grand National winning jockey Mick Fitzgerald, ex-England football stars Glenn Hoddle and Jamie Redknapp and BBC TV racing presenter Rishi Persad, and an equally impressive celebrity line-up is set to feature at Goodwood next month.

Not only will fans have the chance to play 18 holes of golf on one of Goodwood’s two 18-hole courses but they can also enjoy a sumptuous tapas meal before watching an expert panel preview the next five days’ action.

Held in aid of UK Youth, the event’s expert panel, hosted by Sky Sports’ Ed Chamberlain, is poised to include some of the leading names from the horseracing world including Fitzgerald and At The Races presenter Gina Bryce.

Packages for the day start from £800 for a team of four people which includes 18 holes of golf on Goodwood’s Park course, a Mediterranean tapas dinner hosted in Goodwood’s private member’s club ‘The Kennels’  and the preview – with  golf on the Down’s course available for an extra £200 per team.

In addition, guests will enjoy breakfast on arrival; goody bags courtesy of Cleveland Srixon; ‘Beat the Pro’, ‘Nearest the Pin’, ‘Longest Drive’ and other feature competitions; bar facilities all day; live band and entertainment and charity auction in aid of UK Youth.

Quintessentially English, Glorious Goodwood’s five-day festival annually attracts more than 100,000 racegoers and is a mainstay of the summer social calendar, while it is likely to be more popular than ever this year with racing superstar Frankel poised to defend his title in the Sussex Stakes.

Goodwood’s stunning estate is home to two first-class golf lay-outs, the Downs Course and Park Course. Their 2006 inauguration ensured that the Goodwood Hotel became a first class venue for golfers of all abilities in the south east.

The Downs Course has already featured in the list of theUKandIreland’s top 100 golf courses. It is a spectacular new parkland layout that represents a genuine championship test. The recently-renovated course is maintained in immaculate condition, and its 6,816-yard lay-out ensures it is regarded by many as one of the finest downland courses in theUK.

Operating as the perfect foil, the Park Course is shorter in length but benefits from the same high standards of presentation, and offers a beautiful alternative to the more challenging Downs Course.
