Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa’s reputation amongst travelling UK golfers continues to grow at a record rate with the deluxe Sicilian venue having taken more bookings than ever before in a calendar year – with more than six months to go in 2014.
Latest figures announced by Donnafugata reveal that its popularity in the UK golf market is at a new high, with bookings up by an astounding 52 per cent on the corresponding period last year.
The resort is already 17 per cent ahead of the total number of room nights booked by golfers for the whole of 2013 and, with numbers projected to grow at a similar rate for the next six months, end-of-year bookings are expected to have increased by more than six-fold in the last two years at Donnafugata.
The new numbers mean that the UK has now overtaken Switzerland to rank alongside Germany and Italy as one of Donnafugata’s three biggest markets.
And with a number of new services available at the resort, including the opening of new flight routes into Comiso and Catania, new rental club pacakages and the opening of a new Darren Clarke Centre of Excellence – the first facility of its kind in continental Europe – UK golfers are set to continue flocking to discover Donnafugata in their droves.
Donnafugata is continuing to reap the rewards of working closely with a range of specialist golf tour operators, both large and small, across the UK and its decision to invest in a concentrated PR campaign in the media, including advertising on Sky Sports for the first time.
Guy Roberts, director of golf at Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa, said: “The UK market was one of our biggest growth areas in 2013 and and the booking numbers we’ve already taken for this year are tremendously encouraging.
“There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this spectacular increase in the volume of business generated from the UK market is thanks largely to the tremendous visibility that we have managed to secure over the past 12 to 18 months in the British press, and also as a result of a number of important PR campaigns.”
Featuring two 18-hole championship courses – the Parkland and the Links – and extensive practice facilities, Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa has won widespread acclaim across the golf industry since opening in 2010 and was the venue for the 2011 Sicilian Open, won by Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin.
Located just 20 minutes from Comiso airport and set in the beautiful area of Donnafugata, a natural reserve and famous tourist destination known for the imposing castle which bears the same name, the resort also boasts a number of fantastic historical cities nearby. These include Val di Noto, the heart of Sicilian baroque; Ragusa Ibla, Modica, Noto and Scicli. All are deemed fitting of UNESCO World Heritage status.
As well as its outstanding golf facilities, Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa has 202 rooms, an award-winning spa and health club, swimming pools and three restaurants offering a broad selection of gastronomic delights, well accompanied by perfect Sicilian wines to enhance flavour.
