The luxurious Sicilian venue, which features a variety of first-class facilities including two championship golf courses and a five-star spa, beat off strong competition to receive the accolade from leading travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller.
The award follows just a week after Donnafugata was included in the Rolex World Top 1,000 Golf Courses poll and is the second honour Condé Nast Traveller has bestowed on the resort in the last two years.
The top travel publication named the venue as its Best Overseas Day Spa in 2010, while Donnafugata also received major recognition from the European Tour last year after being chosen to host the 2011 Sicilian Open.
Pablo Rey Rodriguez, general manager at Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa, said: “To be voted Italy’s number one golf resort is quite an honour and something that we are all very proud of.
“It’s wonderful that all our hard effort is being recognised and this will only help us in our aim to continue to deliver a five-star service to all our guests.”
Located 90 minutes drive from Catania airport, Donnafugata offers the perfect recipe for people seeking a relaxing holiday in five-star surroundings on the largest island in the Mediterranean.
Donnafugata boasts two 18-hole championship golf courses – the Links Course and the Gary Player-designed Parkland Course – with the latter being used to host the 2011 Sicilian Open, won by Frenchman Rafael Jacquelin.
The luxurious resort lies near to the historic town of Ragusa, the cradle of Sicilian Baroque architecture, with its neighbouring towns listed among the pearls of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Modica, Scicli and Noto.
As well as two 18-hole championship golf courses, Donnafugata offers a spa and wellness centre, swimming-pools and three restaurants and is the ideal destination for a holiday focused on sport and relaxation in a truly exclusive setting.
