In the week that the European Tour visits the 2018 Ryder Cup host venue Le Golf National for the 100th Open de France, European Tour Properties is pleased to announce the 2022 host venue Marco Simone Golf & Country Club as the latest European Tour Destination.

The addition of the Italian course to the exclusive network – of which Le Golf National near Paris is also already a member – means that both of the next European hosts of golf’s greatest team event are now part of the European Tour Properties stable.

Located a mere ten miles from the centre of Rome, and offering views of the dome of St Peter’s Basilica, Marco Simone boasts an 18-hole championship course – set to be remodelled ahead of 2022 – as well as a nine-hole course, and is all centred around a stunning 11th-century castle.

Keith Pelley, Chief Executive of the European Tour, said: “I am delighted we can welcome Marco Simone as a European Tour Destination, especially given the exciting announcement at the end of last year that it will host The 2022 Ryder Cup.

“The Ryder Cup is one of the great occasions in our sport, an event that every golf fan looks forward to with anticipation and excitement, and we are therefore proud to now have the next two European host venues officially associated with us.

“Our European Tour Properties team will ably support them as they work to offer the very best experience for players and spectators in the coming years.”

David MacLaren, Head of European Tour Properties, said: “We are very pleased that Marco Simone is the latest addition to European Tour Properties, becoming the 22nd member of our network of outstanding golf venues and resorts in Europe, Middle-East, Africa and South-East Asia.

“Rome is one of the world’s great cities and for golf fans there is no better excuse to visit than to include a trip to Marco Simone.”

Franco Chimenti, president of the Federazione Italiana Golf (FIG), said: “I am very pleased the club that is going to host Ryder Cup 2022 has received such an important award.

“The European Tour’s decision brings further prestige to Marco Simone as well as recognising the great work Laura and Lavinia Biagiotti are doing with great passion and enthusiasm.

“The road to The Ryder Cup starts in the best of ways for Marco Simone, making it even more attractive and helping make Italy one of the most interesting places for golf tourism.”

Lavinia Biagiotti Cigna, Vice President and Owner of Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, added: “We are proud to become a European Tour Destination and to offer a memorable experience of game, entertainment, food and culture in a unique Italian setting.

“Marco Simone is a “green dream” located only ten miles from the very centre of Rome where keen golfers, amateurs and beginners can play golf 52 weeks of the year in mild weather, while enjoying special features such as the view of St Peter’s Dome and the Tower of the Marco Simone Castle that dates back to the 11th Century.”

Marco Simone follows Constance Belle Mare Plage and Portuguese duo Troia Resort and Bom Sucesso as the latest new members of the European Tour Properties network, and is the sixth new addition of 2016, with Lighthouse Golf & Spa Resort and Albatross Golf Resort also announced earlier in the year.
