Just a few days after this week’s Ryder Cup contest has reached its climax, golf’s global superstars will head for London, where the best field ever assembled in the London area will contest the World Golf Championships – American Express Championship at The Grove from 28th September to 1st October, with a prize fund of $7.5 million.
The occasion marks the first time that so many of the top golfing stars will ever have played on a course so close to London. In this unique format the world’s top 64 players play on all four days of the tournament hosted at one of Britain’s most luxurious new golf facilities.
With the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking all eligible, the WGC – American Express Championship has always attracted a stellar field and golfing luminaries such as Tiger Woods, Ernie Els and Sergio Garcia are expected to be joined by Phil Mickelson and Retief Goosen along with Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald and Colin Montgomerie – along with Paul Casey of England, the new HSBC World Match Play Champion, whose Wentworth win takes him to world number 17, a rise of 10 places.

The American Express Championship is one of four events under the World Golf Championships banner – golf’s only global series of events. The others are the Algarve World Cup in Portugal, Accenture Match Play Championship and the Bridgestone Invitational.
