British heritage brand Wolsey is to make its return to the Major stage at this year’s US Open, worn by tournament rookie, Tom Lewis, who will be sporting the iconic Fox logo on his apparel at the Pinehurst Resort next week.
The 23-year-old qualified via the international sectional qualifier at Walton Heath Golf Club. Playing in steady rain Lewis sank a 50-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole to claim his spot in the championship field.
From the mid 20thcentury through to the 1970s, Wolsey was particularly recognised for its golf range and was worn by US Open and Open Champion Tony Jacklin, as well as other endorsers including Peter Allis, David Feherty, Fuzzy Zoeller and Rodger Davis.
The Sportsman collection is made up of modern, sophisticated and stylish high-performance tailored sportswear, with a strong focus on breathable, waterproof and multi-layered outerwear and performance polo’s, base layers and knitwear. Sportsman’s clean and subtle use of traditional British menswear colours, minimal and strong textural patterns creates a clean ‘less is more’ aesthetic.
“We’re excited to see Wolsey back at the Majors’,” said Louis Wolcott, Wolsey brand director. “Having Tom represent us on the world’s stage is another milestone to add to our extraordinary heritage.”
One of the brightest young lights in British golf, Lewis turned pro in late 2011. He promptly won the European Tour’s Portugal Masters and went on to be crowned Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year. That came after a highly successful amateur career which included wins at the Boys Amateur Championship, St. Andrews Links Trophy and as a member of the GB&I Walker Cup team. Lewis also shot a first-round 65 to earn a share of the lead at the 2011 Open Championship and ultimately captured the Silver medal as that year’s low amateur.
Wolsey Sportsman Autumn Winter 14 collection is available on wolsey.com, leading golf resorts and specialist stores across the globe from 15th July.
