Willett and Callaway dominate at Wentworth

10.52am 23rd September 2019 - Sponsorship & Events

England’s Danny Willett led the final round from start to finish on his way to victory in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, capping an outstanding week for Callaway and Odyssey.

Willett’s 20-under par total, which gave him to a three-shot victory over Jon Rahm, was underpinned by consistency throughout his game. During the final round, he was first in Greens in Regulation, third in Putts per GIR, and sixth in Putts per Round; impressive stats that helped him to his seventh European Tour title and a winner’s cheque of €1,056,662.

Danny Willett captured his seventh European Tour title with victory at the BMW PGA Championship

In securing his second Rolex Series title, the former Masters champion used an Odyssey Stroke Lab Tuttle putter, which has been a constant feature in his bag since winning the 2018 DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, and features the innovative multi-material Stroke Lab Shaft that is designed to improve tempo and consistency throughout the stroke.

Willett was quick to reference Callaway’s Chrome Soft X golf ball as being a major factor in his win this week: “I switched to a new ball with Callaway this year in January, and that I think has helped massively with the ball flight and spin ratios which has helped me perform better in the wind.”

Callaway also celebrated being the #1 driver and iron brand at the European Tour’s flagship event on Wentworth’s West Course, while Odyssey putters were the choice for 50% of the field, underlining their position as the no.1 putter on every major Tour in 2019.

Neil Howie, Managing Director and President of Callaway Golf EMEA, added: “What an incredible week for #TeamCallaway. Danny showed real composure coming down the stretch to seal another landmark victory. It was also great to see him pushed all the way by our South African staffer Christiaan Bezuidenhout, a real talent for the future, who secured a much-deserved third place.”

Fellow staff professionals Henrik Stenson and Francesco Molinari also used the BMW PGA Championship to debut Callaway’s new JAWS MD5 Wedges. Molinari used 50°, 56° and 60° models, with Stenson opting for 52° and 58°. JAWS MD5 wedges designed with the most aggressive grooves in golf, led by a new JAWS groove design with Groove-in-Groove Technology for exceptional spin.
